Hello everyone! Sorry for not replying earlier, been a little bit busy.

I'm up for taking part, although I'm not sure how much time I can devote to helping organise things. But as long as I'm available for the missions I'd be happy to join in and promote it all on my channel!

Thanks,

Well, my hope really is to keep it simple and fun.. without that much "administrating" but rather occasional fun teamflying guided by some rather simple principles but upgradeable to even storytelling roleplaying fun, where it feels like it ;=)

heck, I don´t even consider a squadron name as essential. It starts with simply cooperating online (and working out which principles in communication and tactics make that efficent and simple) when ever some folks meet online and is upscaleable from there.

Yes, I agree but i figured if people had questions that we could try and give them an answer Razz

I guess we don't really need a name.

I did some sever testing today. So maybe when were both free we can try some more testing.

Hey Guys!

DrZebra dropped by my channel the other day asking if I would like to try out this multiplayer squadron you guys are planning. It sounds like a lot of fun! I may not have a lot of time to dedicate to it, but it's definitely something I would be interested in trying out!

It seems like it's been a few days since this thread has seen any activity, so I'll see if I can find that other sub thread you guys mentioned and make myself known there too.

Few things I wanted to talk about.

Zebra nice work adding that post about how to get started. Also I have a friend thats interested in trying Rise of Flight so I invited him along to be an observer with me in a two seater and as such a bombing guide would be helpful Razz If your interested a bombing guide would be good for the Training section.

What days & times do you guys typically do ROF multi-player? Voice program, etc?

And you're on the Syndicate server?

Well for one we don't use voice comms. We have no schedule right now, post in the Ready Room when your available or reply to someone in that section. We do normally play on Syndicate.

Will do.

I'm gonna have to get used to navigating without cues. I'll end up mistakenly landing at an enemy aerodrome otherwise.

It takes some getting used to. I hope to eventually have our own server where we can teach people navigation and things.

Turns out my navigation isn't too bad.

But my air-to-air gunnery skills were terrible today. Did great at getting the maneuver advantage in my dogfights but just couldn't shoot steadily enough for a quick kill. Another enemy usually happened along and got me from behind while I was shooting all over at his buddy.

I should brush up on my shooting skills in single-player. Also been planning to get a set of rudder pedals (Saitek maybe?) because it's way too sensitive in ROF. Any of you using some?

In our joint flight, someone was allways running ahead, was that you? I as flight leader then had to stay near to keep the flight together and in the end we missed the gotha attack and arrived too late over Nancy because that had taken us too far north.. (i know I said north in chat.. but this time I actually HAD a plan ;=) )
Overall a great fun flight!

I really recomend staying with the flightleader (or leading the flight yourself) as without coms and visual signal the whole "woking together" thing needs closeness. The flight leader needs to fly at reduced throttle and in such a way, that the others can keep close.

Feel free to contribute ideas here:

and: practicing gunnery is never bad. Rudder Pedals are very useful and recomendable. Albeit, I use a stick where I have a rudder on the throttle (for economy reasons) which I find not too bad, since it doesn´t contaminate roll and yaw input (like in a stick with "twist" axis) and therefore works pretty well for me.
the cheap stick I use (it is near perfect after cutting the springs inside with a wirecutter):
speedlink blackwidow or impact (the same without vibration)

Nefaro, you also haven't created a pilot. It's by no means necessary but adds a lot to the experience. I don't use pedals for economic reasons either. They seem to be the way to go however.

Yeah, that was me pulling ahead there. After we got on the other side of the lines, I ended up looking for enemy planes below us more than watching you guys to stay in line. I also thought Nancy was underneath us when we headed northwest but it was a bit further south so my navigation also failed that time. When I realized I had pulled so far ahead, I had to circle back around.

Never did see those bombers. There was only one Entente player left on the server by that time so air combat was probably a long shot.

My final mistake was not seeing the train. I followed you down to the deck but when I got there, I couldn't spot it. So I climbed a bit to spot and lend some cover if that one enemy player showed up. Saw some machinegun nest shooting at one of you so returned the favor until one of the big Archie guns damaged my engine. Put it safely down in a field closer to the trenches. My spotting is rather spotty too.

I also currently use the big rocker switch on the back of my throttle for rudder. But it can still be too touchy even with a heavy curve set in ROF. I figured maybe a proper set of rudder pedals might have more range of motion to spread it out. I've not flown ROF in months (until a couple days ago) so getting the pitch controls also feel too sensitive. Be glad I didn't careen into anyone! drunken

I didn't realize you guys were creating an alter-ego here. Just happened to be on the server when you showed up. Will birth one.

from the chat messages it seemed like Bandy was intercepting that raid, not 100% sure though.. I had also stated our intention to be there to increase chances of us ending in flames ;=)
I recorded a tiny bit and there where 2 more allied planes (richards in a nieuport and another one in a spad) aloft, ab1_richards did intercept dukley and me but we both were not in fighting condition. Dukley had engine trouble and I was out of fuel...
I tried to indicate the train by firing a red flare in its direction and made a U-shaped approach afterwards for flak evasion and coming in along its length. Maybe that system needs a bit rework, but usually so far we sort indicate contact by wingwaggeling, enemies by firing the guns and definate attack with a red flare into the direction... the problem with guns and more so with flares is the attention it attracts from other players... it´s all work in progress, but so far, it worked quite well and to me, felt good, this whole flying without much comms and seeing the difficulties there.

It was a good flight and I feel like the realism of no voice comms gives authentic confusion. Watching any of my videos you can see my thought process. Mostly "Who's that" and "Where am I". But finding out that Nefaro was shooting at the AA battery that was hitting me is pretty cool.

yep, I really think that the different perspectives with realising where ones own perception was off or show someone else makes something different out of the situation is the most interesting thing about the project. So I really do encourage everyone to write their own after action reviews or record videos or thought processes. I think this "together alone" is something specific ww1-ish.. mean we often still use chat, but this having a long flight and still think on how to interpret everything said on the ground thing is quite fun. And challenging.

You guys gonna be doing any flying this weekend?

Also.. should I create a whole new ROF profile for my pilot alter-ego(s) when I create them, or just use my Nefaro one? I'm not sure if all our game settings are Profile specific. Question

What I'm asking is whether I should switch to a Profile with that specific pilot name, so it uses that on the in-game chat. The settings thing could become an issue, if it is indeed different for each one.

you don´t need to re-set settings (other then skins and fuel/weaponloadouts) for another pilot profile, the benefit of one is that the life is better tracked by the statistics and offcourse the fun.
