this weeks steam offers as curated by zebras

Post by DrZebra on Wed Nov 12, 2014 4:31 am

just wasted some time and had a look on steam, albeit I am not a huge steam fan..

but there are some low-dollar thingies this week that the one or other might like:

a)
A remake of a bitmap-brothers classic that I rember from childhood, the bitmap brothers where like the über-game-makers back then in the times of the atari ST/amiga age. It is a very early RTS that was THE thing, back then. Simply called Z

downside: aparently a bit loveless pad/phone conversion with a bit of a clunky (made for touchscreen?) way of unit selection.

price on sale seems ok, though

b) Silent Storm
a bit of a fantasy-ww2 strategy game that I remember as having had quite a hype in its day. Still good at that price, I´d say.

c) Wings of Europe (a full Flightsim)
now it does get old today, but it is from a series with a lot of addons, games and fans.. There are even people selling mods for this old thing today, but free mods should also be around plenty. For the price thats definatly a nice grab, if you can live with aging flightsims..

I didn't even think Wings Over Europe even worked properly on modern OSes.

The Strike Fighters 2 series, which are the sequels, are still enjoyable for a lighter cold war flight sim IMO.  Truckloads of mods for them too.  Unfortunately no multi-player and the hi-to-lo-res terrain "player bubble" is set too low by default.  I still play the Europe and Israeli Wars campaigns on occasion.  Thought about picking up Vietnam but it mostly involves flying through air defences and not so much air-to-air combat.

I really liked Silent Storm back in the day.  Love those turn-based tactical games.  Now that the new X-Com, Xenonauts, and RPGs like Wastleand 2 and Divinity: Original Sin are out, I doubt I'll do much SS again.  So much to play and not enough time to do so.

I've just recently started doing some of those turn-based ones again, as above.  Been switching between those four in the past couple months. Another fun Early Access one is Invisible, Inc. which is a cyber-noir tactical game focused primarily on stealth.  Has permadeath.  From the people who did Don't Starve.

I really liked Divinity. I haven't finished it though. The friend I was playing with lost interest. I would like to play Wasteland 2 at some point and I hope to get Xenonauts.

Silent Storm is a great game.I just had a look at the Amiga game you mentioned, that looks really cool, something else for the Steam wishlist Razz
