Darkest Dungeon and Apotheon

Post by Nefaro on Wed Feb 04, 2015 3:09 pm

I picked up Darkest Dungeon and Apotheon on Steam today.

They both have some pretty wonderful looking art & themes.  I've been addicted to Darkest Dungeon's brutal roguelike play and dark gothic theme thus far and haven't been able to drag myself away to check out Apotheon yet.  But they've both been getting great user reviews.

I think they're primarily single-player games, being a roguelike and an action-scroller.  I normally avoid side scrollers like the plague but take a look at Apotheon's art and theme - you'll see why I jumped. DD has just been plain addictive. Because I like well done roguelikes of the classic turn-based randomized RPG definition.

I also avoided Apotheon because of its side scrollerlyness. I feel like side scrollers are a step backwards when it comes to creating new and different games, but thats just me. Darkest Dungeon looked cool but I'm not sure I can justify that price tag.

I've still not played Apotheon, if only because Darkest Dungeon was taking up my single-player time.

DD has been pretty fun, mixing a little roster management sim with dungeon crawling RPG. Sounds odd but it works. I'm gonna try slowing down on how much I play it because there is still more content coming.

It sounds cool that's an interesting concept.
