VoidExpanse

Post by Nefaro on Thu Jan 22, 2015 10:34 am

Just picked up VoidExpanse.

It's a top-down 'open world' sandbox style game, more akin to a real-time version of Space Rangers 2 in style from what I've been told.  Which pushed me into the "Buy" decision.

It even has multi-player, with persistent server option.  A fellow sim gamer acquaintance recently started up a persistent host server so I plan on checking this out tonight. I think SR2 was more enjoyable for it's turn-based system, but in order to have multi-player I suppose the sacrifice may be worth it for something like this.

The game just hit Beta and is set to go live Early Access on Steam any day now.  It's only $10 now and maybe $15 when it goes to Steam so it was an easy purchase for me.  I'll let you guys know if it's fun.

I did have to wait a day for my login confirmation email, for their website, before I could purchase from them.  That wasn't fast but the actual PayPal purchase and activation was instantaneous.

Very interested! Let me know how the MP is. Damn you! I just dropped a chunk of cash on some new board games, now I'm considering this and will probably buy it...

Awesome.

Between this and Running With Rifles, the top-down shooter has had some good indies being developed lately.

I'm still not used to it's Newtonian-ish controls, mostly because they're a bit sluggish when you start, but I'm sure that gets easier with practice. Been playing RWR more lately (and the Napoleonic stuff) so not sure when I'll revisit this one.

There are some persistent multi-player servers running all the time, from what I understand. Although you may not run into other players very often even if they're populated. Dunno.
