25/01/2015 Squadron Operations for Sunday SYNDICATE SQUADRON Vintage Mission

Post by SeaLord on Thu Jan 22, 2015 10:28 am

Available pilots meet at 1650 UTC for a 1700 takeoff for the Sunday SYNDICATE SQUADRON Vintage Mission, whatever it may be. Other pilots may link up with pilots already in the air at any time thereafter. We will switch to the TeamSpeak3 DD Officers Mess almost immediately to plan the first sorties. Once planning is completed, bomber crews will switch to separate TS3 channels and fighter pilots will switch off TS3. TS3 can be used to plan subsequent sorties and for bomber crews throughout the rest of the day.

Note: Dr. Zebra has in the past suggested a sortie beginning at 2200. Therefore, I suggest that pilots plan sorties before that time to end prior to 2200 UTC, so that we can fly a sortie, or sorties, beginning at 2200.

As usual, all pilots should use profiles with the prefix *DD* before the rest of the name.

If there are any questions, problems, or suggestions about this, please start a message thread for the airing of grievances.

I thought it was back to the normal 24 hour rotation that's usually running. Are they doing custom ones every Sunday now?

Is that what they do? I guess that's why they are "vintage."

Yes, the server had around four different scenarios and it would switch to the next in order once a day at most, or less if there had been people scoring on it (AFAIK).

There were scenarios listed for a few years, one for each of 1916-1918 and maybe even one for '15.

However, their Russian front Sunday event was a special scenario that wasn't in the normal rotation. So they do some special ones sometimes. I rarely see the Syndicate server very packed except weekend mornings (server's in Europe) - mostly Sundays. I suspect that's when the SYN guys normally get together.

I SeaLord,

Could fighters stay on TS3, and have the mic mute?
Also, would be great to know the side we will play before meeting up on chat or Team Speak 3.
I know last time we played Allies, or we doing Central this weekend.

Thanks again for scheduling the fly out! Wink

Cheers

I looked for an advanced notice, but I could not find one. Nefaro wrote that they just rotate the regular scenarios.

ok, I think we do need a tad bit more training, some things to consider..

when on a bomber raid, positioning of the escorts can make a real difference. The probably best allied tactic in "running" planes is to position the escort slightly aft, slightly towards the sun side and some 300m above.. that way you can stay up until the enemy closes on the bombers, then you dive in and shoot them, but pull back up instead of persuing single dogfights.

if you see someone tied down in a dogfight, still, there is only two viable choices: let the guy fight alone and hope he is wise enough to run home, or dive in and giving a chance to seperate. GUYS: DON`T: if see someone dying in a lost turnfight with an expert enemy and an unsuitable plane and then decide you want to do exactly the same: turnfight that guy. that is exactly what happend on the two breguet mission with tailmange in the other breguet. ALL of 3-4 escorts lost to some lonely 2 ace guys.  just because of tactics. stay fast and high.

when someone then goes low, like me, don´t follow.. if I try to seperate enemy and force him into choosing which plane to follow, staying all together kind ruins that idea.

but other then that, yeah, I also need to rethink a lot of my decisions... guilty there, too.

I agree we need more training. Me included. My inexperience is getting me slaughtered. I lose track of the lead plane, I cannot seem to spot the enemy, I get bounced, I miss targets level bombing, I fly too low and get hit by flak. I am so bad, if I was someone else, I would not want to fly with me. We are not using the TeamSpeak bomber channels. Our bombers tend to separate at the target and we totally lack any cooperative fighter tactics. I got jumped by the "lonely 2 ace guys" first. I spotted him at the last second and tried to break right, but he blew me out of the sky in one pass. I was on my own because our fighters fly as individuals, not as a flight. Lone wolves who don't use cooperative tactics don't become aces. They die in the sky. I would like to train to develop out tactics so I can stop getting killed.

To have training, people have to commit to showing up. It does not work very well when people show up for the Vintage Mission, decide on a mission in 2 minutes, and try to work out the kinks after take off while the enemy is attacking.

Hi guys, I agree about the formation flying and the escort support yesterday.
On my part, I was a bit struggling testing the head tracker (Facetracknoir) and got myself in some strange situation that made me more a problem (could not see well on my 6 or under me) when escorting you guys. Hope I can get this working better or my TRackIR 5 can be deliver this week!

On the other part, Dr Zebra, I will need more info on taking off with the Gotha... it seem's strange that the first moment of taking off, the plane doesn't seem to want to move on one side??? After a few seconds, the control comes back and i'm able to move left or right. I did try after that the HP bomber, and I got in the air with 16 bombs on my first try???

See you soon in the air.
Cheers

In RoF the gotha has an undersized rudder and is underpowered and very fragile at low speeds.. you can use the negative turn moment of giving counter-aileron to help with that. keep it above 100km/h

sealord did you record the balloon buzzing? I´d love to see the vid

thanks a lot, I hope you don´t mind if I share it a bit.. i enjoy those less serious moments in a mission. That particular one was actually quite eventfull, if you come to think about it.

Yes, please feel free to share it and anything else (videos or whatever) I post. I am beginning to appreciate the funny bits too.

The balloon busting went well, we happened to show up just as a Nieuport 28 was making a run at the balloon. I think the second German balloon was also being attacked at the same time, so it must have seemed to have been a really well coordinated attack to the German players even though it was totally spontaneous.
