Hardcore Sim Mode for Ground Forces

Post by Nefaro on Wed Jan 21, 2015 10:17 am

They had a Tier 3 test event over the last couple days where there were no HUD or mini-map indicators for both friendly and enemy forces.  Along with all tanks being spotted (no disappearing or invisible ones) and such 'Simulator' setup.

It was a blast.  Very tense too, of course.  I think most people loved it and I expect Gaijin to replace the previous Sim Mode with it before long.

I still want them to add Binoculars to the Commander's view in Sim mode, because it has always needed that.  Maybe adjust the cap circles to just encompass a whole town or large central area so that circle gameyness is mitigated.

Enjoyed it mostly with my Tiger and JgPzIV/70 but did a couple matches in a T-34/57 too (my Soviet tank line was only barely into Tier 3).  If they implement this so-called Full Realism mode in Sim Battles, then it should be available to all Tiers.

cheers

-Not sure if I saved any video from these battles. If I have any interesting stuff, I'll post it soon.

Did I also mention that you can fly aircraft in the same matches?

I've not found comfortable settings for my joystick the last couple times I tried to set it up for War Thunder Sim mode but it's there for when I get around to it. From what I read, the HUD indicators are also not present for flyers in this mode so the spotting and gauge-reading is all hardcore too. I died to some dive bombers during the event, but I know it's not easy for them to positively ID tanks in that mode, much less put the pickle in the barrel on one that is moving.

That should convince him to try it!
