Couple new ones!

Post by Nefaro on Mon Jan 12, 2015 5:25 pm

I just ordered Heroes Of Normandie and Xia: Legends of a Drift System this weekend.

Believe I saw mention that there is a Heroes Of Normandie Vassal module. It's very much a wargame at the squad & invidiual vehicle level but isn't too rules or counter heavy, so it may be good for an eventual try. I also have Command & Colors: Ancients which would be similar in many ways.

Xia looks awesome in a Merchants & Marauders freelancer kinda way. The components look great and I'm glad the minis come pre-painted even if the paint job isn't anything great - saves me time. Not sure if vassal there.

As if I need more tabletop games. I still have well over a dozen I've not even learned yet. study

Oh Heroes Of Normandie has been on my list for awhile now. I've not heard of Xia, gonna have a look at it now. Command & Colors those games are neat, I think I played a PC version of it before. I don't know if you've heard of Pike and Shot but they recently released a PC version on steam. http://store.steampowered.com/app/312390/?snr=1_7_15__13

Yeah, I have Pike & Shot.  It's based on the Fields Of Glory mini wargame system.

I picked up C&C: Ancients awhile back because I thoroughly enjoyed my playthroughs of Battle Cry years ago, which is pretty much the same system based in the Civil War.  Unfortunately C&C doesn't have plastic minis but rather the wood blocks with the rather base artwork on them but it's still fun.

There are other games which use the same core system as C&C/Battle Cry.  Memoir 44 (WWII), the BattleLore series from FFG (Fantasy), and Samurai Battles from Zvezda (has minis requiring assembly but it would look great after all the work).  I've been tempted by all three of the others but haven't put much time into C&C yet. They're not terribly difficult and the card-driven aspect makes for some tough decisions.

I agree I like the card driven decisions. You can always get some cheap 6-15mm minis to replace the blocks and probably wouldn't cost to much.

True. I've actually considered that before. But then I'd feel obligated to paint them all, adding to my already long list. Laughing

So it's low priority right now, especially since I don't see my old Battle Cry opponent anymore so haven't played it.

Yes, I have many half and unpainted armies lying about.
